Você já ouviu falar na expressão “you can say that again”?
na sua forma literal, a frase poderia ser traduzida para “você pode dizer isso de novo”.
Porém esse é um idiom que utilizamos quando queremos concordar com algo que acabou de ser dito. É algo como “concordo totalmente” ou “com certeza”.
Veja as frases abaixo:
“This heat is unbearable today.” – “You can say that again!”
(“Esse calor está insuportável hoje.” – “Nem me fale!”)
“That movie was amazing!” – “You can say that again.”
(“Esse filme foi incrível!” – “Concordo plenamente.”)
“We really need a vacation.” – “You can say that again.”
(“A gente realmente precisa de férias.” – “Verdade absoluta.”)
“Traffic is worse than ever.” – “You can say that again.”
(“O trânsito está pior do que nunca.” – “Nem me diga.”)
“This cake is delicious.” – “You can say that again.”
(“Esse bolo está delicioso.” – “Com certeza.”)
Observe agora frases mais longas:
“After three hours of standing in line at the airport, John looked at me and said, ‘This is ridiculous,’ and I replied, ‘You can say that again!'”
(Depois de três horas esperando na fila do aeroporto, John olhou para mim e disse: “Isso é ridículo”, e eu respondi: “Nem me fale!”)
“When the meeting finally ended after two and a half hours, my colleague whispered, ‘That was a total waste of time,’ and I said, ‘You can say that again.'”
(Quando a reunião finalmente terminou depois de duas horas e meia, meu colega sussurrou: “Isso foi uma completa perda de tempo”, e eu disse: “Concordo plenamente.”)
